It ended up being okay in the nick of time Tiense Sugar and the Belgian beet growers. The parties reached an agreement on Wednesday Joke Schauvliege, the Flemish Minister of Agriculture.

Negotiations have been deadlocked in recent months. Schauvliege therefore suggested start March two mediators at. The impasse after all, had to be dissolved before sowing the sugar beets. 'The challenges facing the sector are therefore huge with the European Union radically changing its sugar policy.'

Economic interests so great that this should not be put at risk

According to the minister, the mediators have started discreetly and have successfully completed their assignment: the parties have now reached an interprofessional agreement. This means that growers can start sowing with confidence.

The President of the Confederation of Belgian Beet Planters (CBB) Mathieu Franken says in it monthly magazine: 'Ultimately we can now conclude that if people respect each other's position, there will always be an acceptable solution for both parties.'

Schauvliege says that the economic interests, both on the grower's and on the processing side, are so great that this should not be put at risk.

Has a price been agreed? Earlier, the factory people went around with 2 prizes. €23 for small growers and €27 for large growers!
