Skylark farmers working more sustainably

June 15, 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude - 9 comments

Skylark growers are at the forefront of taking sustainability measures compared to the rest of the sector. This is the conclusion of the foundation after 15 years of working according to the system.

In 15 years Veldleeuwerik, according to the foundation, it has become clear that growers are at the forefront of taking sustainability measures. 'He is seen as a sustainable entrepreneur who works for the long term, who makes conscious choices in open and in-depth knowledge exchange with colleagues and partners, and who is not afraid to learn from mistakes. Veldleeuwerik's bottom-up sustainability system acts as an accelerator in this respect. Skylark growers also incur lower costs for crop protection and energy than is done on average in the arable farming sector,' they say.

Partners are linked to the grower regional groups

The cooperation in grower-regional groups will be further strengthened in the coming years. With more intensive relationship management, the partners are actively linked to the grower regional groups. This further strengthens the Veldleeuwerik knowledge platform, as does the distinctive profile of Veldleeuwerik.

Focus on soil, (crop) protection and biodiversity
Growers and partners, such as Heineken, Aviko, HAK, OCI Agro, Agrifirm, CZAV and many others, want to contribute to socially important themes such as climate change, water and biodiversity. That is why they are going to collaborate even more actively within Veldleeuwerik on making cultivation and food production more sustainable. Growers and partners will specifically focus on the indicators soil, (crop) protection and biodiversity.

When Portal about 400 arable farmers and more than 50 partners are currently connected.

It's nice that the foundation thinks itself so well! I have not yet heard that from anyone other than the sponsors who also go into their shells towards customers.

We from toilet duck.....
400 of the 12000 arable farmers in NL is 3%, that's not really much, is it?

oh well, you always have anti-people. and forerunners are used to being disliked by colleagues. it seems that deep in your heart you are okay with it, but just feel more at home with the largest safe group. or simply enjoy the gains to be had for which others have worked. now enjoy that. We cannot and will not do otherwise.

In my view, Skylark is no different from a group of people who like to chat about soil and crops in a study group with colleagues. Nice for this group of farmers, but certainly no distinction in quality or progressiveness.

Many skylark growers are in the NOP.
These are the same people who managed to spoil these virgin polder lands in 3 generations and to farm so intensively that they are now infested with chitwoodi, potato and beet nematodes, etc., too many to mention. 1 in 3 grow potatoes and in between grow no other than chicory, beets, onions, flower bulbs, etc., and almost no grain.
Now to compliment themselves that they extensify more than non-skylark growers. Yes, growers who have always cultivated extensively and who are often involved with the soil are now being slapped by this club.
Just call it a study club trying to get the over-cultivated land back in order, but stop patting yourself on the back.

If they don't pat themselves on the back, who will? Gosh, what an overconfidence.

Next year I will go cuckoo with the cuckoo foundation.

I think most bird watchers are in eastern Flevoland, here in the unsurpassed polder there are not that many.
