Maize harvest 2017: start for weed control maize 2018

31 August 2017

The maize harvest will start again in a few weeks. An ideal time to see how weed control has been successful and which specific weeds are left. Pay particular attention to fields where smooth-fingered grass, bindweed, chamomile and many-knotted plants occur.

Even if weeds occur partly or only around the plot, it is important to pay attention to this. A plot easily runs under the weeds due to soil preparation, among other things. Make a note of these plots, discuss it with the livestock farmers and take this into account if maize is grown on the same plots again next spring. After all, each maize herbicide has its own strengths.

smooth finger grass
laudis has a unique OD formulation, which ensures a very broad spectrum of action. Last season Laudis proved to be the best remedy against smooth finger grass, both in trials and in practice. When used in time for the 2-3 leaf stage of the smooth-fingered grass, 2,25 liters per hectare of Laudis in combination with Akris or Gardo Gold has given the best results. Instead of 2,25 liters per hectare of Laudis, you can also use 0,5 Laudis WG with Robber.

hedge bindweed
Monsoon Active fights grasses (not smooth-fingered grass) as well as difficult broadleafs such as chamomile and swallow's tongue. Unique against root weeds such as bindweed and peat roots and potato storage (especially underground). Monsoon Active also fits well as under-leaf spraying against weeds such as bindweed and deciduous squirrels.

Broadleaf Weeds
capreno has gained a position in the past year mainly due to its broad spectrum of activity on broadleaf weeds and grasses. The combination of tembotrione (from Laudis) and TCM (thiencarbazone-methyl) ensures both leaf and soil activity. Capreno is extra strong against chamomile and swallow's tongue and has a nice side effect against bindweed.

Auxo, also a product against broadleaf weeds, has a very strong and broad effect. It also has a side effect against barnyard grass and other annual grasses.
