Washhouse malfunction

Sugar factory delay caught up again

18 September 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude

The sugar factory in Dinteloord has as good as made up for its delay. Last Thursday, September 14, the supply of beet was temporarily stopped after a fault in the wash house. Plant manager Luc Kroes confirms this.

Starting up the sugar factory in Dinteloord was more difficult in this campaign than in previous years. On Thursday there was a malfunction in the wash house. "A lot of test runs have been done with the new washing installation, but in the end the beets are the real test," explains Kroes.

"Beets behave differently from water and were transported through the installation with enormous force. In such a way that they ended up bouncing on the safety wires, which caused the machine to shut down. We have now installed guards so that the transport is a bit more gradual. brought quite a bit of rest. The bouncing is now less."

Factory lay a
half day quiet

Supply stopped
Due to the defect, the factory was shut down for half a day. The supply of beet had to be stopped as a result. "A truck arrives every 2 to 3 minutes. As soon as there is a malfunction, you have to temporarily stop the beet transport if you want to avoid traffic jams and traffic congestion." Some growers also noticed that processing had come to a standstill. Sometimes beets were collected later than planned.

According to Kroes, the trucks are now driving back and forth. "We are back on schedule. I therefore do not expect the malfunction to have any consequences for the further course of the campaign."
