Recent figures from Statistics Netherlands show that the yield per hectare of various grains increased considerably in 2017. On the other hand, there were also a number of grains that showed significant declines.
The total yield of wheat comes according to the CBS out at 9,5 tons per hectare. In 2016 that was still 8 tons per hectare. However, the largest increase was observed in silage maize. This product showed an increase from 3,1 tons to 43,4 tons per hectare.
Winter barley increased from 7,6 tons per hectare in 2016 to 8,6 tons per hectare in 2017. This brings winter barley back to the level of 2015, which was then also 8,6 tons per hectare. Rye yields also increased. This product showed an increase from 2 tons to 5,5 tons per hectare.
Also declines visible
Summer barley shows a decline. Here the yield per hectare decreased from 6,6 tons in 2016 to 6,2 tons in 2017. This yield is also lower than in 2015, when a yield of 6,5 tons per hectare was achieved.
Grain maize and CCM also showed a decreasing yield compared to last year. For example, CCM went from 12 tons per hectare in 2016 to 10 tons per hectare in 2017. The yield of grain maize per hectare decreased from 10 tons to 8,8 tons per hectare.
