18 October 2017 - Niels van der Boom

Consortium SIA-RAAK recently approved the PULSE project. This project is intended to increase the cultivation of high-quality protein in food. This requires crops that thrive in the Dutch climate. The consortium includes parties from seed breeding to consumption.

SIA-RAAK comprises a consortium that focuses on the development of high-quality protein ingredients from legumes. Project PULSE, which stands for Protein Utilization from Legumes for a Sustainable European Crop, is formed by a partnership between HAS University of Applied Sciences, NIZO Food Research, Limagrain, GEA, Cosucra, MFH Pulses, Ruitenberg Ingredients and Sofine Foods. This covers the entire chain.

Peas, field beans and lupines are interesting for our climate

Protein cultivation for the Netherlands
Peas, field beans and lupine are among others suitable for the Dutch climate. Soy is not mentioned. Within the project, suitable varieties that produce an increased protein content or have an improved protein composition are selected and further developed. Proteins themselves are also being investigated.

Education involved
With HAS University of Applied Sciences as a participant, education is also involved in the party. From this academic year, the project will start with graduation assignments at the various partners and educational projects for previous years.
