Cereal pool Profytodsd close to last season

June 7, 2018 - Niels van der Boom

The net final price of the long wheat pool amounts to €146 per tonne at Profytodsd, previous year this was €147,50. The wheat in the pool was sold between August and May at prices between €140 and €152 per tonne. On average, the market price during this period on the Emmeloord stock exchange is €160 per tonne.

Deposit
After deducting the costs for storage and transshipment, safekeeping and other allocated costs, the company works out at €146 per tonne. Since an advance has already been paid, the participants will receive a subsequent payment of €36 per tonne. A possible correction will be made to the final price for drying costs and the hectoliter weight. Profytodsd says it consciously opts for a system with net prices, so that the grower can see what his grain has yielded without 'calculating'.

The short wheat pool runs from harvest through December and came to €147 per tonne. The market was lower during that period, but the short storage period also means that storage costs are lower. As a result, the net result is virtually the same as the long pool. The net price of the feed barley pool amounts to €138 per tonne. Most of this has been sold at daily price.

Unfavorable harvest
Profytodsd received the most wheat last year in the first half of August. Since the weather conditions were not always ideal, the moisture content was slightly higher on average at 16,2%. The hectoliter weight was good with an average of 74. The hectare yields were also reasonable to good.

The recent price increases on the grain market offer prospects for the coming season, the company hopes. The working area extends across Flevoland and Northern Netherlands. The area of grains has decreased slightly among participants. More spring wheat and/or spring barley has also been sown instead of winter wheat. Fewer tons are therefore expected in the coming harvest.

Higher price
"It now looks like prices may pick up and reach a higher level," says director Frans van Egmond. "This offers perspective for the new season, but we must not forget that the world supply is still large."
