Suiker Unie has decided to start the beet campaign 1 week later, which means that the campaign has been postponed to Tuesday 11 September.
By starting the beet campaign later, Suiker Unie is meeting the wish of many growers to be able to harvest the beets later for early delivery. Due to the drought, the revenue forecast already adjusted downwards.
Gert Sikken, director of Suiker Unie, previously know that it is very difficult to give a representative picture for the Netherlands. "The current state of the beets also shows extreme differences: from less than 10 tons to more than 90 tons per hectare."
Campaign also shorter
In addition to the fact that Suiker Unie will start the campaign later, it will also last shorter than previously anticipated. In the current planning, the duration of the campaign is approximately 19 weeks. The end of the beet campaign will come out between 20 and 25 January. In the last week of August, the growers will receive the final campaign plan from Suiker Unie.
