Beet campaign starts with big differences

19 September 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Cosun's beet campaign has started; last week was the first week of supply. The differences in the sugar content are large, which is partly due to the fact that regrowth does or does not occur.

When regrowth has occurred, the sugar content drops. The average sugar content was 15,9%, with peaks of 14% to 19%. Cosun expect that (due to this week's sunny conditions) the sugar content can quickly rise above 16%. In Groningen in particular, the levels are relatively high (around 17,5%).

Low tare percentage
Due to the favorable harvesting conditions, the tare percentages are low. The average percentage is 6,5%. Cosun reports that the harvesting is generally going well, although more attention is needed for the harvesting and header work (because of the beets that grow high above the ground).

Cosun's factories have already processed more beets (on balance) than had been planned. The company has not yet come up with figures on the revenues, because (according to the cooperative) even more figures are needed.
