Beet campaign shortened for at least 1 week

11 October 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Because the beet yields are lower than expected and the factories are achieving good processing figures, Cosun is running ahead of the campaign planning. As a result, the beet campaign will probably be shortened by 1 week.

The campaign has now been going on for 1 month and about 1,5 million tons of beets have already been processed. The harvest is progressing steadily, under good conditions. Although Cosun has already announced that the revenues are considerably lower, the exact figures have not yet been announced.

In addition, the tare percentage is still very low, with an average of 6,6%. The drought is conducive to lifting, but unfavorable for the growth of the beets. Although the beets have produced new leaves on many fields (due to the precipitation at the end of August), this leaf cannot produce optimally (due to the drought in many regions).

Leaf Diseases Strike
In addition, there are also several plots where leaf diseases have still struck, such as writes cosun. The sugar content increased by 0,4% to 16,8% last week. Cosun is counting on the increase to continue, because the nights are relatively cold and there is a lot of sun during the day.
