News Harvest 2019

Grain harvest starts early with winter barley

4 July 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn

The grain harvest has started with the winter barley harvest. The first plots have been harvested not only in the Netherlands, but also elsewhere in the European Union. Yields and quality are generally good.

Due to the good weather, the early fields of winter barley are maturing quickly. After the province of Limburg and the northwest of the country, the harvest has now also started in Flevoland. This means that the harvest has started a little earlier than usual this season. Yields and moisture levels seem generally good.

Yields Varying
The average yield seems to be around 10 tons per hectare. In addition, some growers say that the kilos are less this year and that a lot of straw comes from the land. Due to the higher temperatures, the crop matures more quickly.
