CZAV and Agrifirm report this the winter barley harvest is as good as completed. Agrifirm states that the yields are generally decent. On clay and loess soils, the average yield is above 10 tons per hectare, while there are occasional peaks of above 12 tons. Yields are particularly lower on sandy soils. The better plots yielded 8 tons, while dried-out plots yielded around 6 tons.

Good quality
The general impression is that the moisture content is well below 15%. The hectoliter weight and brewing quality also generally seem to be in order, although CZAV states that the average hectoliter weight is on the low side. However, the winter barley harvest has not yet been completed everywhere. For example, Jelte Pars of George Pars Graanhandel reports that 120 hectares of winter barley still need to be harvested.

The harvest of winter wheat and spring barley is also just around the corner. The winter wheat harvest is expected to start in approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Expectations for the yield are good for the time being. Almost all the wheat from the old harvest has been used up.

Market expectations
Although grain prices are rebounding on the international futures markets, the local physical price does not always follow suit. Traders are cautious because yields may be lower in America and Russia, but are good in Europe. A much higher price than the current price level is therefore not expected.
