'Russians try to destroy agriculture in Ukraine'

31 March 2022 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 18 comments

Russia is deliberately trying to destroy agriculture in Ukraine, Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky said in his speech to the Dutch House of Representatives this morning. He called on the Netherlands to cooperate in the reconstruction of the country once the war is over. So also to the recovery of agriculture. “Our country can be one of the strong farming nations in the world. Together we can build more and become a really strong farming nation.”

Zelensky warned that Russia's current strategy could lead to world hunger if farmers in Ukraine are unable to sow the crops. It was the first time that a foreign head of state addressed the Dutch parliament and therefore a historic event in advance. In addition to warning about agriculture and the food issue, Zelensky also called for a complete shutdown of trade with Russia and an end to the purchase of Russian gas. Prime Minister Mark Rutte has now indicated in a response that stopping buying Russian gas is not an option in the short term.

Zelensky also called for more weapons to be sent to Ukraine so that the country can defend itself against Russia. He also emphasized Ukraine's wish to quickly become a member of the European Union, something the Netherlands has been very reserved about until now. In his speech Zelensky referred several times to Dutch history, of the Eighty Years' War, the Second World War and more recently the downing of the MH17 plane by a Russian missile over Ukrainian territory. "World War II started with an attack on a few countries. Then came bombs on Rotterdam and London. The shadow of Rotterdam hangs over many European countries. Ukraine is only the beginning. Russia has been preparing for years."

In the image that our current leaders and policymakers have, the farmers in the Netherlands can scratch their heads and start in Ukraine to make cheap feed for western Europe.

"We can safely hold the garden gnome Timmerfrans and our friendly friend Carolala responsible for this!" Sure men, dig deep into your own right and then it is not as helpful as a nice frame as a garden gnome.

You apparently support Putin's strategy of creating scarcity
"Me and the rest can suffocate". Is this the strategy of the Dutch farmers?

The reason for this scarcity situation is not good. But we welcome the fact that the importance of affordable and available food is becoming clear. Weird response Mr Abalo.

we do not support this, but that is what Mr. Timmermans does with his famine policy.

It is striking that the civilian media does not mention the destruction of agriculture and what that means for food security. Says something about the rich/hypocritical Dutchman or the NL media.

Let it be clear, dear sir, that it is not us [Dutch farmers], but in particular Dutch left-green politicians who have unfortunately entered this cabinet which is disastrous on all fronts by chosen route. After that we are left with unelected left-green colored politicians in Europe who follow the same scarcity-creating line. There are plenty of people who can tear things down in Europe, but those who can build things up are apparently no longer there in politics. In the end it has been stated before on the forum that it has become a life-threatening situation caused by completely incompetent politicians!!! I personally think it's a shame that you post such stupid comments on this forum because it really shows that you don't understand a few things.

Attack on European food supply.

Even the crime remains unspoken

Europe is sick of our right-wing exemplary policy of hate,
greed and hope educated arrogance with no regard for reality.
After the climate change, the disappearance of corona,
we are going to solve the problem of refugees without consequences.

Real transitions of heroes like Den Uyl have been given away via export.
Loppersum moans under the right passive policy.
The fuel tax towel is in the ring.

Thank you

Joop den Uil, highly praised by you, has given the gas from Slochteren to Germany and Italy for next to nothing. For now, it is the left-wing politicians who are cutting off food production in the EU.

Petra I don't know what rock you've been living under for the past 50 years?

Since the 70s (under the rule of De Uyl) potteries have started and much more money is still being spent than is received by both the government and private individuals. This will go wrong once and maybe that moment has now come.

In times long gone people only started to spend money when it was first earned, saving was a virtue but nowadays it is exactly the other way around. Spend first and then see how it should be paid back.

Who is to blame for all this I leave in the middle, but a government that continues to spend money that just isn't there that smacks of white-collar crime, after all, the children and grandchildren will be saddled with problems in the long run.

What you can further blame the government / politics is that working and doing business in the Netherlands simply does not pay, you do not get the chance to build something, this is partly due to our rotten system of interests.

To start your own company has become almost impossible due to the stifling regulation that is devised by politicians / civil servants and based on incorrect assumptions, reports etc etc.
The fact that the government is now getting entangled in its own lies and that it actually no longer knows how to proceed, just look at the housing task, has everything to do with mismanagement that has been going on for 50 years.

A good example is the energy transition, we all know the photo of Rob Jetten who was laughing in front of a coal-fired power station that was closing.
This salon politician has never thought about the possible long-term consequences of this closure, there is not (yet) an alternative and now that he is a minister, which is incomprehensible to me, it suddenly becomes dead silent.
All he has to say is turn the heating down just a degree.

In the early 90s scientists/experts warned enough that the unbridled use of raw materials was finite, the governments and politicians did not care and were only concerned with the nice sides of life and we now see the result.

I also find the piece of only spending money when it's earned very applicable to today's agriculture with all their big lease tractors and machines because they really need a bigger one than the neighbor.

It's special that even Den Uyl is blamed here for pot-digesting...

Mr Omtzigt is more obvious, since he, like Den Uyl, is the last politician not to OUTSOURCE his work, but sticks his neck out with the danger of your modern, arrogance and quarrelsome (stabbing) parties in the back of workers who you can address on their work.

This man is still alive and may have a higher return in your choice for robbery.

Idd completely agree we almost all live on someone else's wallet and that goes wrong once it's a house of cards that is about to collapse.

The war in Ukraine only speeds up the process.

Den Uyl has started to spend the gas money on benefits. All that money is gone. Then look at the Norwegians who put that money in a pot.
Also find it scandalous that there is still talk about nitrogen and farmers buying out. The priorities should be very different in these times, maybe the left-wing voter will wake up when it is all no longer affordable??
