Agrifirm is paying a record price in their grain pools for the 2021 harvest year, which has certainly not been seen in recent decades. The cooperative was able to benefit from a highly demanding market. Feed wheat supplies €256,50 per tonne. For baking wheat, that result is €7,50 higher. The guards in particular have done well last season. There the prices go up to €337,50. Malting barley also recorded strong prices.
The pool price for feed wheat with advance is €256,50 per tonne. Without an advance, that is €4,30 more. In the custody pool, the financial result is €330 per tonne. For baking wheat with 76 kg hectolitre weight, the pool price starts at €264 per tonne (basic pool with advance payment). In the custody pool, the result is €337,50. On top of these prices, Agrifirm pays members €3,50 per tonne of member benefit. The basic pool of feed wheat is then at €260 and baking wheat at €267,50.
Sales manager Aart den Bakker calls the pool prices a good reflection of the market. During the presale period, the price continued to rise. Depending on the pool type and the product, the price level is 35% to 60% higher compared to last season† At that time, the cooperative paid €193 for baking wheat in the basic pool and €225,25 for the storage pool. "The malting barley price was initially under pressure due to lower beer consumption as a result of the corona crisis," continues Den Bakker. The basic pool of malting barley amounts to €279 per tonne (excluding member benefits). The brewing premium rose to a maximum of €32,50 per tonne. In the storage pool for malting barley, the result is €355,50.
Drying costs
All prices quoted are gross pool prices. Handling costs and other costs may still be deducted from this. Growers in the pool without an advance receive 3% interest on the unpaid advances. The interest rate is also 2022% for the 3 harvest year. In an explanation to its members, Agrifirm reports that considerable drying costs have been incurred due to rainy periods during the harvest. Quality has also suffered at times. This was also reflected in the hectolitre weight. It started around or above 75 kg, but sometimes ended below 70 kg. A discount scale is used for this.
The current quotations for grains ensure that a solid foundation has already been laid for the coming harvest. It is expected that the consequences of the war in Ukraine are far from over and that they will also have an unpredictable influence on the world grain market next season.

Given the course of the market, I find the payout price particularly disappointing. Or am I the only one?

I have the impression that Agrifirm has already sold a lot at an early stage, and I have also seen that the group was announced in mid-May instead of at the end of May early June.

These malting barley prices at Agrifirm are really far below par, especially in view of the severe shortage early in the season. This is completely unrelated to the war. This will not do Agrifirm any good. Unfortunately. For example, malting barley can be removed from the construction plan again.
