Ukraine forced to start grain harvest

June 28, 2022 - Jesse Torringa - 18 comments

Ukrainian farmers have started the grain harvest in the first two regions. The harvest is earlier than last year, but some farmers have started earlier because they are afraid of what is to come.

The first two oblasts (regions) where the grain harvest has started are Odessa and Mykolaiv. Until last weekend, more than 42.000 hectares of grain from this region went through the harvesters. In total, 90.000 tons of winter barley and 2.000 tons of winter wheat were harvested, converted 2,19 and 1,78 tons per hectare, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture.

Forced harvesting
The start of the grain harvest has therefore started earlier than in previous years. However, some of the farmers would have preferred to leave the grains longer. In regions where fighting is fierce and Russian troops are advancing, farmers are concerned. The military operations pose the greatest risk to them. As soon as an explosive hits a plot, the entire plot is on fire in no time and can't be harvested. One plot after another is catching fire around the fighting areas, Ukrainian farmers report to the AP news agency. In addition, Russia is known to place mines in agricultural areas, which makes harvesting a risk. This is especially the case in the Donetsk region.

Extra grain storage
Work is currently underway on the first grain stations and silos for transport near the Ukrainian western border. In the next two months it should become clear where and how much that will be, Ukrainian agriculture minister Mykola Solsky reported in a press release on Friday, June 24. According to him, the plan is to build 6 to 8 million tons of additional capacity. This is also very much needed in the near future. If there is room for more storage, it is certainly encouraged. The existing places where transport is already being carried out will also be expanded where possible.

When the Northern Hemisphere has finished threshing, we can start adding up how big the harvest is there
Then we'll figure out how to feed all the people until harvesting can take place in the southern hemisphere

we just have to trust that people still need food to live on: we as agriculture can take care of that
The ever-growing world population will still be a source of concern to our world leaders
Dutch politicians also don't know how to handle things in crisis situations
If we're the first to hoard the toilet paper when we panic, it means we're pretty far off the path

You can't believe how stupid people are, completely unaware that the media, because rutte has total power over it, and constantly misleads us, it's a play, a boomerang always comes back is me ever fooled?

The ECB's buying of government bonds has now finally stopped (1 Nov 2019 - 1 July 2022). Due to the printing, confidence in euros/dollars has fallen to a value of, toilet paper? Russia now wants instead of Dollars Rubles for its oil, gas, wheat. India is now going to ban rice exports after wheat, according to reports. This is not the first time India has banned exports of wheat and rice in 2007/2008 in the wake of the financial crisis (bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers). Which country is next? Indonesia again with its palm oil, Argentina with its wheat in December?

I know nothing and the more I think I know, the less I know.
I did my best this year for good yields but with 220 l/m2 since January 1 in lighter soil it is what it is, tout court.
want to sell my straw at 75 ct, high demand by the way.
