Feed barley Rotterdam has shown a downward trend in recent weeks. Week 19 (last week) the stock exchange committee recorded €216,50 per tonne. This week the quotation jumped and increased €24,50 to €241 per tonne.

Last week, the RVO wrote in the Grain Weekly Report that barley quotations in Europe were under pressure due to limited trading activities due to holidays and very moderate demand. Feed barley Rotterdam was then a bit more at the bottom compared to the other European quotations. It is difficult to determine what the cause is for the rather sudden increase in barley prices in Rotterdam. However, last week a rumor started circulating that China would be in the market for barley in Europe. It is difficult to determine whether China has now made its move. This is certainly not evident from the European Commission's export statistics published today. In fact, in the week to May 15, feed barley exports fell to 4.094 tonnes from 32.315 tonnes a week earlier. It is not unusual for these figures to be adjusted later.
