European agri-food exports increased by 13% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year and reached a total value of €58,2 billion. Exports of grain and flour products rose the most.
This is shown by the latest agrifood monitoring of the European Commission. Exports of grain and flour products increased by €1,2 billion to €6,2 billion. The export of fruit and vegetables rose by €698 million, or 31%. The export of dairy products came in third place with an export of €634 million or 15% more. These figures still show little evidence of the sharp fall in product prices.
The main export destinations are: China for cereal products and preparations and Turkey for beef and veal. Exports to Ukraine also received a strong boost with an increase of 45%. Imports also increased, but less rapidly than exports. In the first three months of this year, agri-food imports increased by 10% to almost €22 billion. Grains were again the most important imported product, followed by oilseeds, protein crops and sugar.
