One of Europe's largest organic farms has been sold for €17.4 million. It concerns mixed company the Grianan Estate in Ireland.
Glenmore Estate Farms Limited bought the nearly 1.000-acre estate from the Donegal Investment Group. This would be particularly fertile land, making it suitable for all forms of agriculture. Half of the agricultural land is used for organic farming with the cultivation of grains, red clover and root crops. Furthermore, the farm buildings, including barns, feed storage and milking parlor of 34 pitches, provide housing for at least 400 head of cattle.
Great interest
According to broker Savills, never before has a company of this size entered the Irish property market. There was therefore great interest from various levels, local and international, farmers and agribusiness.
The eventual buyers, local businessmen Karol and Chantelle McElhinney, are interested in arable and livestock farming, as well as biogas and contracting. The purchase price is equal to the asking price when it came on the market a year ago.
sales
The majority of the business is leased by a family. Over the past 10 years, they have produced more than 3.000 tons of organic products annually. These vegetables, milk and grains are sold to various Irish private labels.
