309 hectares exchanged

Record for North Holland lot exchange

20 February 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

In the Wieringermeerpolder (North Holland), 309 hectares of land have been exchanged. It is a record for the province. The land has been exchanged among the province of North Holland, the government, Nuon and 10 farmers.

Noord-Holland sells about 110 hectares of agricultural land through this lot exchange. "We are giving the soil back to the area," says Elisabeth Post, Deputy for Land Affairs at the province of Noord-Holland.

Connecting parcels
The plot exchange creates new opportunities for agricultural companies in the area. The exchange yielded 8 arable farmers and 2 livestock farmers larger and better connecting plots. Space was also created for a Nuon wind farm.

In addition, the plot exchange means a significant decrease in agricultural traffic on public roads. Soil investigation had postponed the plot swaps, which were planned for October 2017.
