The land ownership of Bureau Beheer Landbouwgronden (BBL) was completely phased out in 2018. That is why the organization will be disbanded this year and the so-called BBL grounds have definitively disappeared.
The phasing out went quickly last year, because at the end of 2017 the BBL still had 7.199 hectares on its balance sheet. All land was sold to market parties and clients at the end of last year. Of the stock, 5.686 hectares were allocated to the provinces. The provinces will conduct their own management of these lands as part of the decentralization of nature policy and the abolition of the Rural Areas Agency.
The above is apparent from the annual report of BBL that Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) to House of Representatives has sent. The former BBL has since been merged into the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl).
A lot to Overijssel
Of the 5.686 hectares that have been transferred to the provinces, 1.153 hectares went to Overijssel and 866 hectares to South Holland. Limburg has been allocated 734 hectares and North Brabant 606 hectares. Apart from the provinces of Utrecht and Flevoland, which had no BBL land within their borders, the other provinces also received the necessary hectares.
At the end of 2017, BBL still owned 1.226 hectares for government contracts, although these were completely sold in 2018. 337 hectares are intended for buffer zones and 619 hectares for nature development and the creation of space in river areas.
