Geurts: all stoppers help

Phosphate provided an opening for grazing in legislation

24 February 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 12 comments

The motion for mandatory grazing was passed with a majority at the last minute before the election recess. This concerned the Ouwehand motion. Motions were also passed to lower the percentage of processing, to set up an advisory committee more quickly and to accommodate all quitters.

Legally guaranteeing percentage of cows

With motions, MPs can remedy the gaps they see in legislation or in other areas. The State Secretary is not obliged to adopt the adopted motions, but must have good reasons not to do so.

The necessary motions emerged from the Agriculture and Fisheries Council. For example, Esther Ouwehand, Party for the Animals (PvdD), stated that the phosphate plans are resulting in new concerns about the percentage of cows grazing. 'Requests the government to legally guarantee grazing for cows.' The motion was adopted with votes from the SP, PvdA, D66, Monasch, PVV, PvdD and GroenLinks.

It was only one of the motions passed. Most related to the phosphate plans. The motion by Visser and Lodders about compensating companies of young farmers who were land-bound on 2 July was also adopted. Henk van Gerven, SP, was once again confirmed that companies that are land-bound for the phosphate rights, are also for the phosphate reduction plans. The motions adopted by Rien van der Velde, PvdA, and Carla Dik-Faber had the same purport.

Manure processing percentage down

Jaco Geurts, CDA, managed to get a majority for a motion that provides that everyone who invoked the stopper arrangement will be accommodated within the legal and financial possibilities. Also because this is important for phosphate reduction. Others who signed were Van Vliet, Johan Houwers, Elbert Dijkgraaf (SGP), Carla Dik-Faber (ChristenUnie) and Joram van Klaveren.

There are also concerns about the process for identifying bottlenecks. The adopted motion by Carla Dik-Faber states that an advisory committee must be set up before 1 April. Geurts, Dijkgraaf and Van Gerven also signed this motion.

In addition to the motions relating to phosphate, there were also a number of motions that were not related to the phosphate plans. For example, Dijkgraaf's motion was adopted, which states that the percentages of manure processing must be reduced. The expected maximum phosphate production of 172,9 million kilograms must be assumed. Geurts, Dion Graus (PVV), Van Klaveren, Van Vliet and Houwers also signed the motion. Dijkgraaf found even more support for a trial with e-CMR for the export of solid manure. Something that Van Dam has ignored several times.

Despite a great disappointment, I am glad that I now know which parties I should not vote for as agriculturists #disease society

@Klaas. Why do you know that now? Do you dislike the regulatory burden from The Hague? What do these measures mean for you?

It is just terrible that the small parties in our country together for so long are gaining more and more influence over the management of our agricultural companies.
Even worse I think they want the cows outside, humans can protect themselves against sunburn but the animals can't and then with warmer summers I foresee more and more animals suffering from sunburn, so animal-friendly what have you on your conscience.

I don't see any PVV now. Only two remain CDA and SGP

Mind you, it's a motion, not final legislation.

This is not possible there are legal permits issued for animals to be housed, with or without low-emission floors! The PVD thinks left but is right as hell when they think they can destroy permits just like that! This is not going to be it, Mrs. Ouwehand!

Okay, if they make grazing mandatory, then only offer meadow milk on the Dutch store shelves.

It's a pity that people can decide about things in arable farming / livestock farming, although they don't know anything about it

Vote farmer-friendly, Follow your farmer's heart that's always right!

@Jan: plant an ash, poplar. Sufficient shade in summer.

Sunscreen is a non argument. The livestock farmers I know walk two days with great pleasure to and from the barn. There are two types of farmers these days: the farmer and the farm manager. Farmers farmers, managers complain.

also talk from behind desk
on my land, which is all around the stable, you are not allowed to plant trees, it is (also from behind the desk) designated as a permanent open area.
So I must also be a complainer ha ha
