A-ware announced that it was looking for new dairy farmers. As a result, the company wants to recruit another 100 million kilograms of milk. That milk will be used in Heerenveen, where the cheese specialty line will be expanded.
The growing demand for premium specialty cheeses means that A-ware will expand the cheese line in Heerenveen. This concerns the cheese specialities. Both the national and international demand for cheese specialties is increasing. The expansion comes barely 2 years after the start-up of the cheese factory. It is a development that Klaas de Jong, COO at A-ware, had not expected a few years ago.
Processing different milk flows
If everything goes according to plan, the new cheese line can be put into operation in 2018. The facility of the new line takes into account the possibility of processing milk from different flows. 'We want to respond to the growing need for differentiation among our customers.'
In total, there will be room for 100 million kilograms of extra milk. Collaboration is being sought with dairy farmers from the 5 northern provinces who supply conventional, pasture or organic milk. 'They prefer to live near Heerenveen or Coevorden, but dairy farmers around Almelo, Meppel and the Noordoostpolder are also welcome.'
