In the first week of April, the slaughter figures normalize somewhat. The number of cattle slaughtered is still above average. In view of the phosphate reduction plan, this is only logical. Remarkably, the prices of cattle are on the rise.
The slaughter figure of cattle drops by more than 14 percent in week 11, compared to the previous week, to 17.057 slaughters. In percentage terms, this is a significant decrease. The number of slaughters these weeks is still well above the long-term average. Although the supply is large, there are no extreme congestion at slaughterhouses.
It is surprising that the prices of (sausage) cows are rising in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is benefiting from the rising meat prices in Europe. On Monday, the price of sausage cows (class 1) rose by 5 cents to 1,65 - 1,95 euros per kilo. The same price increase was visible for sausage cows (class 2), which now sell for 1,15 - 1,65 euros per kilo.
