Agrifirm starts marketing GMO-free feed

28 April 2017 - Wouter Baan

Feed manufacturer Agrifirm will start selling GMO-free feed on 1 June. Agrifirm claims that it has the knowledge and experience to supply Dutch dairy farmers with GMO-free feed with the so-called VLOG certificate.

The compound feed manufacturer is thus trying to respond to the increasing demand for GMO-free feed in Europe. In Germany, Agrifirm already supplies feed from GMO-free raw materials.

Delivers a higher milk price

VLOG certificate
VLOG stands for Verband Lebensmittel Ohne Gentechnik and is a German association, founded by food processors, producers and retailers. According to Agrifirm, the use of GMO-free feed is interesting for dairy farmers. This is because milk produced with the VLOG certificate yields a higher milk price.

FrieslandCampina also conducts research
Coincidentally that is FrieslandCampina an investigation has been launched to investigate the opportunities that GMO-free cheese offers on the German market. For this, the dairy is looking for dairy farmers in the vicinity of Born in Limburg and Workum in Friesland. The milk yields a bonus of 1 euro per 100 kilos of milk.
