It is starting to be a neck-and-neck race between FrieslandCampina and Arla. This is apparent from the international milk price comparison. A new entrant to the equation is Hochwald. On average, the European milk price is a small step back.
The average milk price of European processors in March amounts to 33,23 euros per 100 kilos of milk. This at 4,2 percent fat and 3,4 percent protein. This includes an annual supply of 500.000 kilos of milk. That is a slight decrease of 0,21 euros compared to February. If the milk price is compared with a year earlier, an increase of 5,11 euros can be noted.
Neck and neck race
FrieslandCampina manages to maintain fifth place in the ranking with EUR 35,02 per 100 kilos of milk. Arla pays just a little more for the milk. This dairy is lowering the milk price in April and May, whereas FrieslandCampina keeps the price stable. It therefore remains a neck-and-neck race between these 2 large processors.
DOC Kaas/DMK performs less well. With a 31,33 euros per 100 kilos of milk, there is no more than thirteenth place. New to the list is Hochwald. The German processor, with a part in the Netherlands, pays just a little more than DMK. There, 100 kilos of milk yield 31,69 euros.
All milk prices above 30 euros
For the third month in a row, all processors manage to keep the milk price above 30 euros. Although Glanbia drops to a price of 30,88 euros per 100 kilos due to a reduction, it is still not a bad price.
Outside Europe, the Swiss Emmi takes the top prize with 43,41 euros. The US pays 37,10 euros for the milk and Fonterra sells at 32,38 euros.
