By 2020, Russia hopes to be able to meet the internal demand for milk itself. However, there is still a lot that needs to be done before we get to that point. For example, the country is still looking for 800 dairy farms and the average milk production has to increase.
More than 800 dairy farms need to be added to become self-sufficient by 2020. This is what the Prime Minister of Agriculture, Dzhambulat Hatuov, told Agroinvestor. 'The average milk production must also increase to 6.000 or more kilos of milk per year.' Added to this is the challenge of raising more capital for the sector.
more milk
In 2016, the milk supply amounted to 30,7 million tons of milk. 'The higher milk supply was possible thanks to large-scale farms and farms. This resulted in pluses of 2,2 and 6,1 percent respectively.'
Rosstat previously calculated that the average production per cow is below 5.500 kilos per year. However, this is already an improvement of 1,7 over the last 10 years. According to experts, this is the key to increasing the milk supply.
Milk shortages continue to drive dairy imports. For example, imports of skimmed milk powder from 1 January to 14 May are 2,5 times higher compared to 2016. Imports of whole milk powder were even 2,7 times higher. The import of butter closed with a volume of 10.600 tons. Only 6,7 percent and 4 percent less was imported of cheese and palm oil, respectively.
