FrieslandCampina wants to make more cheese

June 14, 2017 - Kimberly Bakker

FrieslandCampina wants to produce more types of cheese. So says Bas van den Berg, COO of the cheese, butter and milk powder division. In addition, the dairy cooperative wants Frico to become the leading cheese brand worldwide, just like Friso is for infant nutrition.

FrieslandCampina will soon start holding talks with the large pizza producers to find out which cheese types are desired. In addition, Van den Berg indicates that there are simply too many different cheese brands in circulation at the moment.

High demand for mozzarella

Gouda cheese
FrieslandCampina is currently the largest producer of Gouda cheese. By the takeover of the Belgian company Fabrelac in 2015, the dairy cooperative is also active on the mozzarella market. 'There is a huge demand for this at the moment', says Van den Berg.

Special cheeses
'We also see a lot of opportunities in the special markets,' says the COO of the organisation. For example, a pilot was recently announced for the delivery of cheese with the VLOG label. These cheeses mainly go to the German market. This label guarantees that no genetically modified organisms are used within the entire chain.

In addition, the company is also working on cheese without E numbers. According to Van den Berg, there is also an increasing demand for this. FrieslandCampina already offers a wide range of meadow cheese. There is a lot of demand for this from Germany.
