FrieslandCampina is going to build a new distribution center in Meppel. The dairy cooperative will bundle logistics in the North at one large new location.
This means that the distribution centers in Beilen, Veendam and Heerenveen will close, it writes Newspaper of the North.
The new distribution center will have an area of no less than 31.000 square meters for the storage and transhipment of dairy products destined for export. For example, there is room for 45.000 pallets with milk powder.
Logistical advantages
The purchase of the building land is the largest land transaction in the municipality of Meppel in 20 years. FrieslandCampina says it has consciously chosen Meppel. The location is easily accessible both by land and by water, which means that logistical advantages can be achieved. The new distribution center is expected to become operational in June 2018.
