Grazing popular with FrieslandCampina members

June 30, 2017 - Wouter Baan - 7 comments

314 FrieslandCampina dairy farmers switched to grazing this year. The dairy cooperative is pleased with this increase, because a grazing cow is good for social acceptance.

Frans Keurentjes, chairman of the dairy cooperative, speaks of a positive development and says he is happy with the new 'grazing land'. "The visibility of the cow contributes to social acceptance and to the image of dairy farming." In 2016, 78,2% of dairy farmers applied grazing. FrieslandCampina wants to boost that percentage.

grazing farms is FrieslandCampina's target number

Back to 2012 standard
FrieslandCampina's target for this is the percentage of grazing farms in 2012. At that time, 81% of the dairy farmers applied grazing. In 2020 FrieslandCampina wants to be at this level again. That is why the dairy cooperative organizes grazing clinics. Members can also receive tailor-made advice.

This year, for the time being, this has led to 314 new grazing farms. It is still difficult to say how much percentage growth that is. This is because a number of members have stopped or have terminated their membership.

Incentive premium
Dairy farmers who graze their cows for at least 120 days a year, for at least 6 hours a day, can count on a meadow grazing supplement of €1,50 per 100 kilos of milk.

Are all pasturers also real pasturers, ie how strict is the control?
Here and there you hear and see doubts in the field.
The citizen will not be fooled, in deception, the image damage is greater than the image gain, I think!! It is not desirable that the livestock farmers have to hold each other accountable for this.

Just being busy with yourself, instead of being busy with the neighbor and associates!

Control is already far too strict, the interest of the cow must come first, not that of the citizen or the dairy.

grazing is just economics.
suddenly see a lot of fence, but never a cow, or very occasionally a few . the rest just don't want to go out because they have it really good inside.
but pay pasture premium, that's a bit crooked.

The rules have now been tightened again, the inspectors of Qulip must be able to carry out the inspection very easily, so no cows in the barn during the day, doors closed
