From 2018

Lower beef production expected in EU

2 August 2017 - Kimberly Bakker - 1 reaction

The European Commission (EC) expects beef production to fall by 2018% from 1,4 onwards. This is apparent from the recently published short-term forecasts of the EC.

For 2017, the European Commission still expects a slight increase of 0,8%. This should bring production to 7.960.000 tons. The reason for the decrease, which will start from 2018, is that fewer slaughters will take place in the coming year.

has the price of beef increased

Positive development of beef price
Compared to June, the price for beef has increased by an average of 0,5% in the past month. This means that the average price is €374 per 100 kilos in the EU. This is evident from the market overview of the European Commission.

Beef exports have also risen sharply in recent years. In the first 4 months of 2017, there was even an increase of 26%. That is the highest level in the past 5 years.

Imports will only increase slightly
The Commission expects exports to increase further in the coming year. This is an increase of 10%. However, imports will only increase slightly, by 1%.
