The price of dairy products has risen sharply in the past year. In July, consumers pay almost 10% more for dairy products than 1 year ago. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this on Saturday 19 August.
It is the largest increase in dairy prices in almost 10 years. The main reason for this increase is the higher milk prices and higher butter prices. After milk, meat and fish follow, with both an increase of 6%.
Butter and milk prices rise fastest
Of all dairy products, the prices of milk and butter have risen sharply. In July, 35% more is paid for both butter and whole milk. Semi-skimmed milk 'only' went up 25% and cheese became 7% more expensive. The price of yogurt increases relatively little, namely 2%.

The table shows that butter and whole milk in particular have become more expensive.

Dairy price compared to 2000
The dairy price has risen by 2000% since July 34. This puts dairy in third place in the ranking. Prices in the fruit and vegetables categories became 47% more expensive and in meat and fish 34% more expensive than in 2000.
Dairy in the EU
The research also shows that consumers spend 11% more on food. Almost 14% of this is spent on dairy. In the other EU countries this is many times higher. For example, the share in Lithuania is over 20%.
