Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina has received an SDE+ subsidy of over €200 million for the installation of solar panels at its member dairy farms. The dairy processor will announce this on Monday 21 August.
The Minister of Economic Affairs, Henk Kamp, awarded the SDE+ subsidy to FrieslandCampina in March 2017. The grant will install more than 416.000 solar panels on the roofs of 310 dairy farms.
More than 100 football fields
The solar panels together provide an area of more than 100 football fields. Together they generate more than 20% of the electricity for the Dutch product locations and offices of the dairy company. This is equivalent to more than 35.000 households.
FrieslandCampina Solar program
The award is a major step in the FrieslandCampina Solar program. This program focuses on accelerating the installation of solar panels on the roofs of dairy farms. The cooperative has the ambition to fully cover the electricity consumption in the chain with the production of green electricity. In doing so, it wants to contribute to the target for climate-neutral growth in 2020.
FrieslandCampina therefore encourages the production of green electricity by member dairy farmers. It does this by offering a bonus of €10 per tonne of reduced CO2 emissions. In total, more than 1.600 FrieslandCampina dairy farms already have solar panels on their yard.
