Coöperatie Jumpstart, founded by FrieslandCampina, will receive a €130 million SDE+ subsidy for the installation of 103 mono-manure digesters on dairy farms. Minister Henk Kamp, Economic Affairs, announced this on Wednesday 13 September.
Before all dairy farms have the mono-manure digesters installed, a number of variants are tested. This is to ensure that the mono-manure digesters meet technical and economic expectations. The other manure digesters will be installed from the summer of 2018.
Reducing CO2 emissions
FrieslandCampina wants to reduce CO2 emissions with this initiative and hopes to contribute to the target for climate-neutral growth in 2020. To do this, the use of natural resources, such as water, raw materials and fossil fuels, must decrease.
Mono manure digesters contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This is because they reduce methane, but also because green energy is generated. In addition, the dairy group is actively involved in solar panels, geothermal energy and energy saving.
Using electricity
In addition to using the energy at the company's own company, part of the electricity will be used for FrieslandCampina's product locations and offices. The more than 100 installations achieve a reduction of 70.000 tons of CO2 units. That is equivalent to the operation of 670.000 solar panels.
Who can register?
Jumpstart currently has 68 members, who are the first to qualify for the grant. The other subsidies are awarded to new members. However, this is in order of registration. Non-members of FrieslandCampina can also become a member of the new cooperative.
