Milk puddle half smaller

Russia cheats with dairy statistics

21 September 2017 - Wouter Baan

Russia produces about 31 million tons of milk in 2017. Official statistics in Russia show that. In reality, however, the milk puddle is half the size. Cheese production figures are also being cheated.

According to the Russian Federation of Dairy Farmers (RSPMO), Russia produces 'only' 17 million tons of raw milk, instead of the aforementioned 31 million tons. The association doubts whether the official cheese production figures are correct. According to statistics, Russia was 2016% self-sufficient in cheese in 67, compared to 25% in 2015.

Raw materials are counterfeited

Food industry guilty
In the past 5 years, the dairy herd in Russia has grown, but 'only' by 8% to 8,2 million cows. According to the union, Russian milk production is not in line with the production of Russian dairy products.

The union suspects that the Russian food industry is to blame for the inflated statistics. The origin of raw materials is probably falsified.
