Wednesday, October 4 is the last chance to chop in reasonably dry conditions. Various measurements by Agrifirm show that most corn varieties approach the dry matter percentage of 35%. Waiting longer therefore means a major harvest risk.

Need tracks?
If the forecast comes true, tracked forage harvesters will be needed to get the second half of the country's corn crop. Especially in areas where a lot of precipitation has already fallen in September. Not to mention structural damage.

The further northeast, the worse the forecast

From Thursday October 5, just like in September, more than 30 millimeters of rain may fall in the space of a few days. The long-term forecast also shows a continued depression train. The further northeast, the worse the weather maps look. Zeeland and Flanders may benefit from the so-called Azores high-pressure area.

Higher prices in winter
In the north and east of the Netherlands, approximately €1.500 per hectare is paid for good corn. Growers in the Northern Netherlands speculate about higher prices in the winter. In the eastern Netherlands, cattle feed companies that specialize in CCM processing offer much more corn. But like every year, it is a lot of calculations with the cubic meters, the contract costs and the dry matter percentage. In the south of the Netherlands, fresh corn is less cheap this year.

There are major regional differences, depending on supply and demand. Dry corn prices are under pressure. This has to do with the fact that low grain prices worldwide are under pressure. This is the result of upwardly adjusted returns.

Jan Bakker Fourages presents a discount
Jan Bakker Fourages presented the discount for Corngold transit contracts, which are concluded before November 1. Corngold is fresh corn gluten feed that is produced during wet starch extraction from grain corn. The discount can amount to €4,20 per tonne, when purchasing 10 loads or more of 32 tonnes.
