In a letter to dairy farmers

RFC warns of milk overproduction

17 October 2017 - Esther de Snoo - 19 comments

FrieslandCampina (RFC) warns member dairy farmers not to increase milk production too far in 2018. The dairy is afraid that milk production will exceed the available processing capacity and is sending a letter to members today, Monday 16 October. dairy farmers.

This message has been updated.

FrieslandCampina expects a production peak among its member dairy farmers in the first half of 2018. This is apparent from a survey conducted by RFC among its members. The survey, to which 4.000 member dairy farmers or 30% responded, shows that the member dairy farmers are ambitious.

A third of the respondents indicated that they wanted to buy phosphate rights

About a third of the respondents indicated that they wanted to buy phosphate rights and increase milk production. This group of dairy farmers also expects that they will be able to obtain more phosphate space by using the Kringloopwijzer.

Chairman Frans Keurentjes: "The dairy farmers are insufficiently aware that a higher milk production leads to a higher fixed excretion standard. That also means extra phosphate production." This extra phosphate production must be converted into extra phosphate rights. According to Keurentjes, dairy farmers are insufficiently aware of this.

More market-oriented
RFC indicates that it wants to work in a more market-oriented way and is therefore now sending out the signal. Frans Keurentjes, chairman of FrieslandCampina: "With the letter, we want to respond to the introduction of the phosphate rights in 2018. If the dairy farmers start milking away from their homeland, there is a good chance that there will be an imbalance between supply and processing capacity."

If the imbalance becomes too great in 2018, RFC will consider a standstill. RFC will support dairy farmers with a phosphate planner. This tool should be ready in December. Keurentjes: "As a processor, we benefit from a stable milk supply. If this does not happen and we do get a peak in the first 6 months, we will have to take measures. This will be in the form of a standstill." This means that RFC still collects the milk, but gives a discount on the excess milk delivered.

Panic sowers..I don't believe it at all..once a cheater always a cheater..they are used to buying raw materials as cheap as possible in this way!!!

from whom are these 30% going to buy the rights? I think with the sellers / stoppers so where does the extra milk come from? at rfc they have been looking into a glass ball that is very cloudy for a long time and they have completely lost their way.

farmers have to vote (signatures) during the next members' meeting about paying dairy NL. They have to pay these crooks for a policy (mandatory recycling, ban gupstal, more and more rules etc.) which they do not want at all!

Collect signatures and stop mandatory dues to this club that eats us bare and is also against us! LET'S HEAR!!!!!

cycle indicator is superfluous, because we fill in the combined statement, manure accounting and IR.

This is more than enough and people who want information about "sustainability dairy farming" can request this from the CBS!!! This is therefore not a task for dairy NL and RFC etc.

frieslandcampina has too many office people, who are all sorts of craziness and just make a fool of themselves

I think Keurentjes has a point.
If a dairy cow e.g. If you give 1.000 liters more, you have a higher phosphate excretion and you can therefore keep fewer cows within the phosphate rights that will be allocated later. And I think a lot of people forget that.
So you will either have to downsize in cows or buy far too expensive rights. And those (too expensive) rights are not there...

But first they let the farmers have their way in building bigger stables, they even enlarged the factories. Now come up with stories like this

Aware could use the extra milk, the FC milk cars are already unloading at Aware every day

After reading all this above, I can only draw one conclusion.
There are again many colleagues who would like to milk a lot for a low milk price.

the factory in borculo is regularly closed for fourteen days because it is not yet running smoothly. this costs the members a lot of money. if we do something wrong we get a discount from the same coop. so it costs us 2 times money.

In the south of the Netherlands, in the shadow of Beek airport, a milk factory was built for a number of years. They cannot meet the demand from the supermarkets. They need a lot of milk to meet that demand. I would say, the choice is quickly made.

dear andre do you think that the dutch farmer determines the european milk price?

They shouted for April 1, 2015 bring on that milk, we (RFC) will process all the milk. The suckers!!

For the last 8 years I have been annoyed by Campina because of gigantic miscommunication with their members..every time a message or announcement comes to the members with a negative connotation..often also obscured in what they really want to say. Campina has become too big for the members.balance is no longer there..I also think that there should be freedom of contract again with the energy company...because of the debt burden among the members and the threat of" we pay more and once away then you can't come back" the choice is very difficult for many members .. and of course members are their own entrepreneurs, but the choices they can make themselves are taken away by great powers.

Dear A., There are at least quite a few here in NL who have screwed things up well. Which we have now become the victim of, due to tightened fertilizer and phosphate legislation, and which costs us all good money. That affects our income very much.
Thank you.

Yes, you shouldn't just let farmers do their thing, it turns out ;-)

Sometimes you surprise yourself that there are still (RFC) dairy farmers who do not (want to) understand. Apparently the message is not getting through. Fortunately, at RFC we have a suitable and competent board.
Ton Westgeest 19 October 2017
Yes Dirk, sometimes you surprise yourself. But then you go on like this. Some livestock farmers like the fact that the dairy determines their business and operations. They don't have to think and just milk. Do not call yourself a farmer, agriculturist or entrepreneur, because then you are simply employed by the factory. But then with all the risks for you.
"RFC a suitable and competent board", yes if you say it many times you will eventually believe it...
You can no longer respond.
