The expectation was that there would be more milk in October. Has that expectation been fulfilled, and what have the levels done? Do the results live up to the statements from the field?
The Netherlands recorded 1,17 million tons of milk in October, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced. That is an increase of 1,6% compared to 1 year earlier. This means that the Dutch milk supply has managed to expand its lead over last year; from 0,6% to 1,6%. In concrete terms, this means an increase of 18.407 tons of milk.
Fat content disappoints
During the month of October it was heard from various quarters that the levels were above expectations. This turned out not to be the case for all dairy farmers, because on average the fat content fell below last year's percentage. October yields a fat percentage of 4,39%. That is slightly less than the 4,44% of 1 year earlier. A little more milk and a little less fat ultimately results in a fat yield of 51.476 tons, an increase of 0,5%.
With the end of the year in sight, the Netherlands has achieved a provisional total of 11,95 million tons of milk. That is a minus of 0,5% compared to 1 year earlier. This means that Dutch dairy farmers are slowly catching up. The fat content is minus 1,1%.Dutch milk receipts are showing an increase again.
