For the first time, LTO Dairy Farming has asked its member dairy farmers to create a basis for a new strategic agenda. It was put together by 177 members in 24 days. Closing cycles, exploiting the diversity of the sector and achieving the climate goals are the most important messages. There is also a proposal for a communication house.
Since the abolition of the milk quota, dairy farming has had to deal with one intervention after another; with the aim of securing the derogation. It meant for the advocate LTO that all sails had to be pulled out and still not everything is in pitch.
New strategic agenda
In the meantime, however, the prospect of a calmer era is beginning to emerge. This also creates more room to think about a new strategic agenda. LTO Dairy Farming decided to appeal to the input of the members. In the past 117 days, 24 dairy farmers examined what the sector wants and needs, but they also looked at the needs of the members of LTO.
This is another step to bridge the major differences within the sector, which have been magnified in the last 2 years. For example, one of the goals is to close the cycle, whereby the sector makes positive use of the power of its diversity. In addition, dairy farming also wants to add value to society, create healthy soil and achieve the targets for climate policy. The role of LTO is to bring this to the attention and to the public. In addition, she must also communicate with the outside world.
Strong bond with the members
Another task for LTO is to build a strong bond. "LTO must stand for our future", the members said. In addition, they ask LTO to facilitate research and to bundle knowledge. The proposal is made for a communication house.
In the coming weeks, LTO, led by Wil Meulenbroeks, will travel the country to hold discussions with members. She hopes to have the agenda ready in the spring of 2018.
