FrieslandCampina is going to tackle the German parts. The company announced this on Thursday 23 November. The dairy cooperative does this by investing and closing 1 location. The measures are intended to ensure that Germany returns to profit in 3 years' time. The dairyman describes it as a new start.
The largest dairy cooperative in the Netherlands will invest in the Landliebe, Tuffi and Frico brands. Tuffi in particular is a strong local brand in North Rhine-Westphalia, an important state for FrieslandCampina. "Many member dairy farmers are located in that region," the company says.
Looking for talent
The move to the Düsseldorf area also emphasizes the importance of the region. "By moving the commercial functions there, we expect to benefit from the available talent in the region and also hope to contribute to the strategic goals in Germany," the cooperative said.
The move will only affect the commercial employees in Heilbronn and Cologne. They are yet to be informed about this. Nothing will change for the other employees at these locations. Heilbronn and Cologne together have 692 employees. The move will take place in the second quarter of 2018.
Closure of dessert line
Although there are a number of positive developments to make Germany profitable again, there is also a dark side. For example, the location in Gütersloh will be closed. This location mainly produces desserts and private labels.
The closure is planned for March 2019 and the closure will involve 231 employees. It is a closure that the cooperative regrets, but the company says there is no other option. This after several previous attempts to make the part profitable have failed. The closure has almost no effect on FrieslandCampina's processing capacity.
The interventions together should ensure that profit is made again in 3 years.
