Over the month of November, Cono manages to keep the milk price under control. Good news for dairy farmers, who can already benefit from a relatively good milk price for the third month in a row. Where does the price come in?
Cono maintains the fat price for November at €3,55 per kilo, compared to €7,54 for protein. November is also a month with a surcharge. Cono's protein price in particular stands out and is above the level of other processors.
Average milk price
The fat and protein prices for November yield a milk price of €41,14 per 100 kilos (at 4,41% fat, 3,47% protein and an annual supply of 600.000 kilos). Since Cono does not apply a quantity surcharge, the extra liters only generate more milk money by spreading the fixed costs over more liters of milk.
The stable, high price for November yields a moving average of €37,87 per 100 kilos. That is a plus of 26,5% compared to 1 year earlier. Calculated based on a milk production of 600.000 kilos, this amounts to a profit of €4,37 million up to and including November.
Other premiums
The milk price is calculated without the premiums for special milk flows, but including the mandatory levies and surcharges. At Cono Kaasmakers, dairy farmers can earn a premium of €2 for grazing.
By participating in Caring Dairy, you can also earn a bonus of €0,75. The financing to ZuivelNL amounts to €0,23 per 100 kilos. In addition, you can participate in a pilot GMO-free milk. This results in a bonus of €1 per 100 kilos.
No active membership recruitment
At Cono they also notice that dairy farmers are looking for new customers. This concerns livestock farmers in North Holland, including livestock farmers who supply FrieslandCampina, Bel Leerdammer and DOC Kaas/DMK. Mark Paauw, association affairs and transport manager at Cono, says that the dairy company is not actively looking for members and already has a waiting list.
"Cono will have 10 to 11 new members this year. They will start delivering from January to March. This involves a total of approximately 10 million kilos of milk and a defensive policy. For example, livestock farmers are switching to organic and we lose that milk. The import of phosphate rights also plays a role. Only a small amount is used for growth," says Paauw.
