Bel Leerdammer hopes that there is an opportunity for a reasonable dialogue with the dairy farmers who have formed a collective, in order to start a case about milk money. This is how the cheese maker explains in a response.
In the first week of December published Boerenbusiness a blog by law firm Te Biesebeek. They represent a group of now 178 dairy farmers who claim that they received too little milk money between 2010 and 2015. Now that the statute of limitations of the case is in sight, they are making another call to those who want to participate.
Had a conversation
The message in question indicates that letters to the processor remain unanswered. Now Bel Leerdammer comes via Theoodor Bos, milk flows manager at Bel Leerdammer, with the statement that a meeting did indeed take place on 1 November. This is between the processor's lawyers and those who represent the dairy farmers.
"In these meetings, Bel Leerdammer also shared that it was severely affected by the problems with Russia in 2014 and 2015. The Russian boycott stopped exports to Russia. A significant part of cheese exports to Russia came from Bel Leerdammer. This has had consequences for the milk price paid by Bel Leerdammer. In addition, the macroeconomic developments in the Netherlands and Europe over the period 2010 to 2015 also had a negative effect on the cheese market."
The cheese maker indicates that the conversation had an exploratory character. "Bel Leerdammer hopes for the possibility of a reasonable dialogue and will make every effort."
