The average European milk price for November is €36,84 per 100 kilos (with an annual supply of 500.000 kilos per year, with 4,2% fat and 3,4% protein). The average does not yet include A-ware's milk price, as it would otherwise no longer be comparable to previous months.

Compared to the month of October, the milk price shows a decrease of €0,02, but when compared to that of 1 year earlier, this is a plus of 17,2%.

FrieslandCampina scores high
For the third month in a row, the top 5 remains the same. For example, the Italian Granarolo retains its first place; with a price of €40,71 per 100 kilos. FrieslandCampina comes in second with €40,61 per 100 kilos, followed by DMK (€39,84). Aloïs Muller comes in fourth place with €38,75. Although Hochwald is not yet among the European processors, it can already be in the top 5. Compared to October, the milk price even increased slightly, reaching €37,63 per 100 kilos.

New in the milk price comparison is the milk price of A-ware. For November, LTO calculated that this amounts to €41,86 per 100 kilos. This also includes the allowance for grazing, calculated based on the average percentage of grazing in the Netherlands. A premium for sustainability has also been included in the price. The cheesemaker even beats the Italians with this.

DMK and FrieslandCampina stand out
LTO outlines that the milk price will decrease from 2018. It is the comment about the decline that stands out. "It is never before that DMK and FrieslandCampina have reduced the milk price so much in 1 month. Extra striking, because the December milk prices of both companies have not changed (DMK) or very slightly (FrieslandCampina -€0,25) compared to November."

Moreover, not only is the milk price in the Netherlands falling, but Arla is also reducing. Dairy Crest increased the milk price, but has announced that it will reduce the milk price for February by approximately €1,10.

Largest increases in Germany and Ireland
An initial estimate shows that the average advance milk price for 2017 is 23% higher than for 2016. The German and Irish companies experienced the largest increases, with a plus of 40%. French milk prices rose less rapidly and showed increases of 10% to 15%. Prices in Italy and Finland rose less rapidly by 5%, but prices there are already relatively high (compared to other countries).

Outside the borders of the European Union, the trend looks different. For example, Fonterra reduces the milk price for November to the equivalent of €30,77 per 100 kilos. In the United States (US) things are going slightly better and the milk price is recovering, reaching €36,28 per 100 kilos. The Swiss Emmi lowered the milk price to €49,20 per 100 kilos. On average, milk prices in Switzerland and the US increased by an estimated 2017% in 10. In New Zealand the increase does not exceed 6%.
