ForFarmers is going to convert a closed factory in Deventer (Overijssel) into a production location for VLOG feed (GMO-free). The conversion is a result of the increasing demand from the ruminant segment (including cattle, goats and sheep) for these feeds.
VLOG is a German association responsible for the certification and issuance of the 'Ohne Gentechnik' label. Especially in Germany there is a lot of interest in VLOG feed, but also in the Netherlands it is in attendance† To respond to this trend, ForFarmers will immediately start with the renovation for the production of VLOG feed.
ForFarmers wants to start using the factory, with a capacity of 250 thousand tons per year, this year. The investment costs are estimated at €3 million.
Largest production location
According to David Fousert, director of ruminants at ForFarmers, the factory in Deventer will be the first large-scale production location of VLOG feed in the Netherlands. Other feed manufacturers, such as AgrunicRhine Valley, bet on VLOG feed.
In the Netherlands, VLOG feed is still a niche market. For example, dairy company FrieslandCampina has a test run to produce GMO-free cheese for the German market. Other dairy farmers are also running pilots.
