Doubling participants

FrieslandCampina sees an increase in Solar program

2 March 2018 - Kimberly Bakker

FrieslandCampina's Solar program sees an increase in the number of participating dairy farmers opting for solar panels on the barn roof. The number of participants grows from 310 to 654 and the number of solar panels thus doubles to more than 800.000.

With the new solar panels FrieslandCampina can provide approximately 40% of the energy supply of its production locations and offices. "FrieslandCampina has the ambition to cover the electricity consumption in the chain with green energy from the farm", Hein Schumacher, CEO of FrieslandCampina, said in a press release.

Solar program
The dairy cooperative offers its members the opportunity to cover their roof to rent out for installing solar panels. The dairy farmer receives a compensation of €4 per panel per year. In addition, the dairy farmer can decide each year to take over the installation, with the associated SDE subsidies.

With the Solar program, the company wants to contribute to the objective of reducing greenhouse gases in the dairy sector. That is why it pays its members a bonus of €10 per ton of reduced CO2 emissions, which is included in the compensation.
