European milk prices show declines

The average milk price in January amounts to €35,44 per 100 kilos, a decrease of €1,52 compared to December 2017. However, compared to January 2017, the average milk price is €2,38 (or 7,2%) higher. With these average prices, however, it should be borne in mind that the milk prices of A-ware and Hochwald have been incorporated retroactively.

Biggest price drops
Most dairy companies further reduced milk prices in January. The largest decreases are for the German and Dutch companies. DMK showed the largest decline; the milk price fell by €5 per 100 kilos. DMK was followed by A-ware (-€4,10), FrieslandCampina (-€3,90) and Muller (-€3,20).

Irish dairies have left prices unchanged in January. This is remarkable, because it is the fifth month in a row in which Irish milk prices remain stable. The American milk price fell sharply again in January, converted into euros, this is a decrease of €3,80 per 100 kilos. 

Reductions for February and March
Arla's reduction is lower, because (in addition to a reduction in fat and protein prices) it has also introduced a number of new surcharges from January. In the months of February and March, Arla's calculated milk price will probably fall by €2 and €2,50 per 100 kilos respectively.

FrieslandCampina's price decrease for these months amounts to €1,70 and €0,20 per 100 kilos respectively. DMK shows a decrease of €4 per 100 kilos in February.
