The cheesemaker from Beemster (North Holland) has not yet managed to prevent a further decline in the milk price in February, but has managed to keep the decline limited. For example, the milk price is minus €0,50 per 100 kilos. This after €1,89 per 100 kilos still had to be returned in January.

the milk price for February will decrease

Slight decrease in February
The decrease is the result of small changes in the valuations for fat and protein. For example, the price of fat drops to €3,30 per kilo and protein comes to €7,12 per kilo. For 600.000 kilos of milk it yields a price of €35,51 per 100 kilos (at 4,41% fat and 3,47% protein). This includes a levy for ZuivelNL and a quality surcharge, but excludes VAT. If the milk price is calculated over an average of 900.000 kilos of milk, it amounts to €35,58 per 100 kilos.

If the milk price is compared with that of 1 year earlier, it is slightly lower. For example, the price for an annual supply of 600.000 kilos was then €36,23 per 100 kilos, a difference of just under 2%. In 2017, March was also a month with a stable milk price, after which it took a step back.

Premium on the milk
At Cono, dairy farmers have the opportunity to earn a bonus of €2 through the grazing premium. €0,75 can also be earned with Caring Dairy and €1 can be earned by participating in GM-free milk (VLOG milk).
