Milk price Arla stops falling over April

28 March 2018 - Herma van den Pol

Arla's British milk price shows an unexpected movement in April. The Dutch milk price remains stable, which also applies to the Danish milk price. In an explanation, the processor states that the prices for protein are still at a historically low level.

After 3 months of price reductions, the milk price for the month of April is better for the British branch of Arla; it goes up. However, this increase is only prompted by a favorable exchange rate. The currency advantage gives them a plus of 0,32 pence per liter, which at 4,2% fat and 3,4% protein translates into a milk price of 27,43 pence per liter.

No increase in the Netherlands
The other countries in which Arla is active work with the euro and therefore miss the currency advantage. It gives them a stable price. In the Netherlands, the milk price (at 4,41% fat and 3,4% protein) amounts to €29,02 per 100 kilos. This with an annual supply of 600.000 kilos of milk.

Arla reports that dairy commodities have stabilized in recent weeks. "However, protein prices remain at a low level. The recent increases in cheese and butter prices have also disappeared. Prices are at the level of the end of February."

Press organic milk
Although the price for conventional milk moves sideways, the organic milk price in Denmark and Sweden shows a decline. This is the result of more supply, with stable demand. In the Netherlands, the price for organic milk (at 4,41% fat and 3,47% protein) is €45,52 per 100 kilos. This with an annual supply of 600.000 kilos of milk. Just slightly higher than the organic milk price of FrieslandCampina which went back to €45,15 per 100 kilos.Arla's milk price, 2017 compared to 2018.
