Nitrate committee agrees

White smoke for extension of derogation

4 April 2018 - Wouter Baan - 1 reaction

The Netherlands will also have a derogation for broader application standards for manure for the next 2 years (until 31 December 2019). The Nitrate Committee approved the extension proposal from the European Commission (EC) on Wednesday 4 April.

In the voorstel the conditions of the derogation decision were comparable to those of 2014 to 2017. This means that farms with at least 80% grassland can claim grassland in order to increase the maximum amount of nitrogen; from 170 kilos to 230 or 250 kilos per hectare per year.

Fortunately, otherwise manure sales would have become unaffordable.
