Introducing Growth Appointment

FrieslandCampina limits growth of milk lake

16 April 2018 - Herma van den Pol - 20 comments

FrieslandCampina announces its intention to curb the growth of the milk lake. To be able to do that, the growth agreement is introduced. That agreement is based on market growth. More production than agreed means a deduction from the milk money. The decision-making process is yet to take place.

FrieslandCampina announces its intention to focus on a more market-oriented growth of the milk supply. This will be done in the future through a growth agreement. "More milk production than market growth leads to a deduction from the milk money of 10 euro cents per kilo." With this decision, the dairy company is bringing the payment of the extra milk more in line with the market growth of the basic dairy products. The basis of the milk price remains the guaranteed price.

"The member dairy farmers will receive a letter today with the explanation and reference", says Jan-Willem ter Avest, spokesperson at FrieslandCampina. He explains that the system is slightly more complex than stated in the press release. For example, an estimate is made every year of the market demand. After that, the growth of the total milk production at FrieslandCampina is examined. Only when this exceeds the market demand, milk money is withheld. This then only happens to dairy farmers who produce more than their reference allows.

Phosphate rights are also a reference

5 references
"In this way we prevent dairy farmers from growing at the expense of other dairy farmers," emphasizes Ter Avest. The options that dairy farmers can choose from are the reference April 17, 2016 to April 16, 2017, the average from April 17, 2015 to April 6, 2018, calendar year 2017 and April 17, 2017 to April 16, 2018. One last option for Dutch dairy farmers, the phosphate rights obtained or registered with RVO before 16 April 2018, 16:00 PM, are converted into a comparison volume. The cooperative chooses the highest volume from the first 4 options. It will later become known how dairy farmers can opt for the option of translating phosphate into milk.

This proposal is not entirely unexpected, because in 2017 Frans Keurentjes, chairman of the Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina already indicated that growth must take place in conjunction with processing and market demand.

In addition to the limitation on extra liters of milk, the largest processor in the Netherlands is also introducing a new milk flow. This will be the certified Top Dairy line. A line that incorporates the new standard for soil-boundness and that meets all the requirements in the field of grazing. "Leading member dairy farmers who are committed to sustainable and special milk flows receive a higher reward." Animal welfare, nature and climate also play an important role in this milk flow. The first products are expected in 2019.

An early prognosis shows that 10% to 15% already meet the requirements for the new milk flow. This will be a supplement to organic milk, vlog certified milk, landliebe, North Holland milk and the other streams of the processor. In addition, efforts are also being made to expand the existing flows.

Decision on proposal at the end of 2018
The proposals still have to pass the member dairy farmers and the decision-making still has to take place. The proposals will be discussed with the member dairy farmers in the coming months. When the decision-making is complete, the proposals will be introduced from 1 January 2019.

Still stupid for those who want to expand.. that's why fc was in favor of phosphate rights.. But what power they have on the members and the market..

This is too crazy for words. Another slap in the face for young entrepreneurs who still want to become farmers. There have certainly been people within RFC who were aware of the plans because the phosphate rights have increased in recent weeks, just like with the introduction of the LU standard! The Council of Members will not abandon the young entrepreneurs and vote against this proposal. We all know that companies that want to continue in dairy farming have to grow. We are not against sustainable, but the plans that are now being conjured up again from the top hat are still going strong

Against voting is in the dictionary of rfc.

You become discouraged. Yet another limitation! We cannot build on this. Do you have a vision, how you will pick it up again after a lot of handing in last year. And again you are being sucked down. Nicely mapped out how many cows you will keep on average this year, everything in pitchers with the planned rights. You can't farm with this. Friesland Campina is no longer there for the farmer. Unfortunately it is the other way around. they will soon run out of milk. If you add a few percent, I can also achieve a good milk price. without ambition and choose the easiest way. And the strange thing is, everything indicates that there will be no more milk in the coming years. Now they will say, then it will not come into effect. Well, we can't work with that uncertainty. We all need to make our voices heard that this is going too far. Although my seat is about to go to a members meeting. But do it anyway

Probably the milk price will go up and the phosphate rights to 25% of the price.
Rather a good milk price than more work
tinus 16 April 2018
nice news...less work, higher milk price, so higher hourly wage.....pity for those who still wanted to sell their P-rights for a long time, because that will no longer work
shoemakers1 17 April 2018
that higher milk price is really not determined by the small amount of milk in the Netherlands

Due to the rapid developments worldwide, as a farmer you have to be careful that you do not become a follower of large multinationals. It is also important that you invest gradually and reduce your debts. Otherwise you will fall back into the arms of the bank.. And there are also those retrained peasant cocks who think they know everything. I read somewhere that rfc will pay 3 cents more for the new top dairy.. 3 cents on top of what? Most organic farmers already know this. If there is too much milk, the price drops. And considering that trucks of milk are unloaded every day in Veghel from Germany and other countries, it's just an asshole story. I hope members are sober enough to supply a product whose price is strongly related to supply and demand. And that all fiction to upgrade the product will be destroyed within five years. Get rid of debt for the next five years and then we'll talk.

Now I understand why a FC board member from Laagzuthem recently suddenly bought so many cows and phosphate rights. The farmer who bought land that a young starting tenant farmer had just lost through a dirty game...
Ae 17 April 2018
It is also special that there are some among them who also coincidentally bought a complete herd at the time 2-6-2015. Rfc is rotten to the bone.. Cooperatives are no longer of this time. Members are the foundation of the company.. But are used as doormats.

I completely agree with Erik's story. They've been totally knocked out. If we have to go to East Germany, Arla will be happy to collect your milk.

After 145 years the anchor is loose . No more processing all the milk and paying well.
Keurtjes and Schumacher are the BIG CULTURE DISTURBERS .
tinus 17 April 2018
why complain and not leave?...let them go I'd say
Huug 18 April 2018
What bad people
Genie 18 April 2018
The Belgians also participate in Wiebertje.
The price of phosphate rights goes straight to the cellar.

This measure paralyzes business development . Upscaling is essential for this . A possibility will have to be offered whereby the delivery right of one person can be taken over by the other; from the pusher or stopper to the one who wants a leap forward.
