After 4 years of negotiations, the market in Vietnam is open again for Dutch veal and beef. The border was closed for years due to the outbreak of BSE in Europe. This is reported by Agromessages Abroad.
Arie Veldhuizen of the Dutch Agricultural Council in Vietnam speaks of a major breakthrough. "The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), the Central Organization for the Meat Sector and the embassy have been negotiating this file for 4 years. And now the final signatures have finally been signed. "
Growing market
Vietnam has nearly 100 million inhabitants. The prosperous urban middle class has high demands when purchasing food. Veldhuizen reports that it is difficult for its own sector to meet these requirements: "The Dutch meat sector is a world leader when it comes to quality, food safety and traceability. So there are opportunities in this country, especially in the higher segment of the market."
"It is now the turn of the business community. Exporters will have to make contact with the major buyers in Vietnam. A lot of beef and veal is currently being imported from the United States and Australia. I am convinced that the Dutch meat sector will compete with those countries can handle," Veldhuizen continues.
